  1. HP-UX SNAplus3270, Technical Data
  2.    For HP 9000 Series 300, 400, 700, and 800 Computer Systems
  3. Product Numbers J2233A, J2227A, J2221A
  4.    HP-UX SNAplus3270 allows interactive communications between an
  5. HP 9000 Series 300, 400, 700 or 800 and an IBM System/370-compatible
  6. mainframe or an IBM peer system such as the AS/400 using SNA 3270
  7. protocols, handling 8-bit data streams.  HP terminals, monitors, and
  8. printers on the HP 9000 running SNAplus3270 emulate the functions of IBM
  9. 3278 terminals and 3287 printers.  SNAplus3270 provides additional
  10. functionality beyond emulation to include features such as file
  11. transfer, HLLAPI application programming interface, Motif graphical user
  12. interface and multiple session support.

  16. The HP-UX SNAplus3270 is available in two configurations:  stand-alone
  17. and client/server.  The stand-alone configuration provides access to IBM
  18. mainframes or peer systems for a single HP-UX computer which has its own
  19. HP-UX SNAplusLink.  The client/server configuration permits access to
  20. the IBM system from multiple HP-UX computers on an Ethernet or Token
  21. Ring LAN.  These computers generally use a single HP 9000 computer with
  22. SNAplusLink as a gateway to access the IBM system.
  23.    The SNAplusLink provides the major features of an IBM 3174 and 3274
  24. cluster control unit and the lower four levels of SNA.  Physical Unit
  25. Type 2 and PU 2.1 (PU2, PU2.1) are emulated, Logical Unit Types 0, 1, 2,
  26. 3 and 6.2 (LU0, LU1, LU2, LU3, and LU6.2) are supported.  When used with
  27. HP-UX SNAplusLink, SNAplus3270 allows access to 3270 applications on the
  28. mainframe such as TSO, CMS, and CICS.

  30. Features
  31. o Allows HP 9000 Series 300, 400, 700 or 800 system monitors, terminals,
  32.   and printers to emulate the major features of IBM 3278 terminals and
  33.   3287 printers.  Terminal access can be through the standard HP-UX
  34.   supported options (asynchronous or bit-mapped display) or through PCs
  35.   running AdvanceLink's terminal emulator.  Terminal access can also be
  36.   through workstation's X-Windows environments by running a terminal
  37.   emulator such as HPTerm.
  38. o PC3270 file transfer enables interactive file transfers of 8-bit data
  39.   streams on the HP 9000 to IBM systems running TSO, CICS, or CMS.
  40. o Up to 10 sessions and hot key capability through windows environments
  41.   enables the user to control multiple host sessions on the same
  42.   monitor.
  43. o Escape to UNIX(r) shell provides terminal users with the ability to
  44.   access other HP-UX programs while maintaining the 3270 session in the
  45.   background.
  46. o Supports IBM's Response Time Monitor (RTM) which allows users to
  47.   display statistics on how quickly the IBM host is responding to
  48.   requests for data.
  49. o Supports NetView 3270 User Alerts for communicating with the host
  50.   operator.
  51. o HLLAPI (High-Level Language Application Programming Interface)
  52.   provides a programmable interface for automating data transfer
  53.   operations and repetitive tasks, such as automating startup of host
  54.   3270 applications.
  55. o Motif graphical user interface
  56. o Motif interface provides seven colors:  red, blue, green, yellow,
  57.   pink, white and turquoise
  58. o Highlight attributes:  normal, intense, blinking, reverse video, and
  59.   underlined
  60. o Keyboard remapping with view, swap and disable key assignments.
  61. o International language support variants of EBCDIC
  62. o Background operation of the ASCII version of the 3270 emulation
  63.   program enables host printing, HLLAPI applications and command-line
  64.   file transfers.
  65. o Type-ahead of keystrokes that will be required after the host has
  66.   responded.
  67. o Keystroke record and replay to start up host application, log on, or
  68.   perform any standard initialization
  69. o File pull-down menu to open, create, save style files, setup multiple
  70.   style files, and control host sessions.

  72. Functional Specifications
  73. When used with HP-UX SNAplusLink, SNAplus3270 emulates a 3174 or 3274
  74. cluster controller and 3278 Model 2, 3, 4, and 5 displays or 3278 Model
  75. printers.  Some of the functionality of SNAplus3270 includes:
  76. o All printers and terminals supported by the HP 9000 Series 300, 400,
  77.   700, and 800 running HP-UX are supported by SNAplus3270.  (See
  78.   Technical Reference Guide, HP Vectra PCs, Monitors, and Terminals for
  79.   specific terminals.)
  80. o Local screen print, screen logging to disk, 3287 printer output
  81.   redirection to printer, file or user program.
  82. o IND$FILE for file transfer to CICS, VM/CMS or MVS/TSO.
  83. o HLLAPI allows C language application programs to be written to
  84.   communicate with the IBM system.

  86. Features Not Supported
  87. For the 3278 Model 2, 3, 4, and 5 displays:  test key, keyclick;
  88. extended attributes:  programmed symbols, alt character sets, multiple
  89. partition, 16 bit addressing; encryption.  For the 3287 Model 1 printer:
  90. PA1, PA2.

  121. Customer Installation Responsibility
  122. Installation of these products requires knowledge in several overlapping
  123. areas.  The staff engineer responsible for this task must have strong
  124. knowledge of (or have direct contact with staff with strong knowledge
  125. of):  SNA networks, application environments, and HP-UX system
  126. administration.
  127.    Installation requires basic SNA knowledge.  This includes knowledge
  128. of interface nodes, network routers, NAUs, PUs, LUs, link types, IBM
  129. hardware and software.
  130.    The installer must understand why the SNAplus products are being
  131. installed, how the users are going to use SNAplus and how SNAplus fits
  132. into the network solution.
  133.    Installation of SNAplus requires a thorough user-level knowledge of
  134. HP-UX commands.  In addition, the installer must be familiar with:
  135.   - running update on an HP-UX system
  136.   - running SAM (in order to add users)
  137.   - the HP-UX file system, privilege groups, and real-time features
  138.   - running LAN and PSI diagnostics on an HP-UX system
  139.   - HP-UX kernel configuration
  140. Customers who cannot compose a team with this skill set should purchase
  141. HP Installation and Network Startup services.

  143. Additional Implementation Assistance
  144. For implementation needs that go beyond installation, the customer can
  145. either provide self-support, or can purchase additional services from
  146. HP.  These services include Network Startup and HP ConsultLine.  In
  147. addition, the customer can also purchase service from HP on a
  148. time-and-materials basis.
  149.    Network Startup includes implementation scheduling and coordination
  150. assistance, network configuration and verification testing, and network
  151. documentation.

  153. Ordering Information
  154. HP-UX SNAplus3270 includes right-to-use license and software.  For
  155. Series 300, 400, and 700, customer must specify software version option
  156. and a media option, and for the Series 800, a processor option.
  157.    HP-UX SNAplus3270 requires HP STREAMS/UX for Series 300, 400, 700,
  158. and 800 running HP-UX 9.0.

  203. HP-UX SNAplus3270 requires previous installation of HP-UX SNAplusLink
  204. (J2220A or J2226A) on the stand-alone or server system.
  205.    The software which the customer orders contains both the stand-alone
  206. and client/server configuration software.  During installation, the
  207. customer chooses which configuration is required.
  208.    Upgrade options are available for Series 800 SNAplus products.

  211. Note:  A copy of HP-UX SNAplus3270 must be ordered for each HP-UX system
  212. which is to communicate with the IBM mainframe through the server.
